England stopper Nick Pope has spoken of his pride after ripping up the record books.
The Clarets number one set a new benchmark for his country over the weekend, after becoming the first England goalkeeper in history to keep a clean sheet in each of his first six games.
A shut-out in Albania, following on from a clean sheet against San
Marino, continued Pope’s perfect record for the Three Lions.
And Burnley’s man between the posts is now eyeing a magnificent seven when Gareth Southgate’s side host Poland at Wembley in their next World Cup qualifier on Wednesday night.
“A lot of unbelievable goalkeepers have represented our country, so to break that record is something I’m really proud of,” Pope told the England website.
Six Clarets receive international call-ups
“We’ve started the group really well and it couldn’t have gone any better really, from our point of view.
“It’s good to have six points on the board and we’re looking forward to Wednesday now.”
Pope, who earned his fifth and sixth caps last week, has already been given the green light to continue in goal against Poland by Gareth Southgate.
And he hopes the Three Lions can carry on where they left off in the two comfortable wins to kick-start their World Cup qualifying group.
“We’re really pleased with the (Albania) win. It was a good performance from the boys and we created some good chances, scored a couple of good goals and got that clean sheet, so happy days,” he added.
