Aaron Lennon will be watching Saturday evening’s big game at the Turf with close connections from both sides.
Lennon initially joined the Toffees on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in February 2015 and became an integral member of the Everton side and featured in 14 of Everton’s 15 remaining Premier League matches.
Lennon re-joined Everton permanently on a three-year deal in the summer of 2015 and went on to make 77 appearances across his three years at Goodison Park before moving to Burnley.
At Turf Moor, Lennon initially joined Burnley in 2018 and went on to make more than 50 appearances for the Clarets before heading overseas with Turkish club Kayserispor.
After returning to Turf Moor in the summer of 2021 he looks back on his time at Burnley with much positivity: “I really enjoyed it. I loved the lads, I loved playing at Turf Moor. They were one of the best groups I’ve ever worked with.
"They were an amazing bunch of lads, it’s a great football club, I had great memories there and I still look out for them now.”
Everton come into the game after wins against Newcastle and Chelsea recently, and Lennon says that he is expecting a close game played in front of another lively Turf Moor crowd.
“With Turf Moor under the lights, it’ll be rocking on Saturday. I look forward to watching it. I think it’s going to be a tight game. I think the first goal will be massive.
"I think whoever scores the first goal will go on to win the game, so I am really fascinated to see how it goes. I am really interested to see how this pans out. I look forward to watching from the sidelines.
“The likes of Tarkowski, McNeil and Michael Keane were all great for Burnley and good lads. They all loved Burnley, which adds a little bit of spice to it, having the former manager and players coming back and I am sure they are looking forward to it in the same way.”
Burnley came away from an impressive Brighton side with a 1-1 draw and with four points from the last three games, Lennon feels the Clarets are adjusting to life back in the Premier League.
“I think they are improving. I am really glad they stuck with the manager. He’s a top, top manager. I think they are playing much better.
"I’ve watched them a few times and they’ve absolutely dominated teams and it’s maybe just those minor details, whether it be in their own box or in the opposition’s box, if they can touch up on that I think they could be fine this season.”
The former England international added: “Lads like Corky, Jay Rod and Charlie Taylor, they’ve all played in the Premier League, they know it can be unforgiving. they know what it is like.
"Those players have been there and done it. They know what it takes to get out of this situation. They’ve got to stick together, and be as positive as they can and hopefully it can change around for them. This league is so brutal. I still believe they have a good chance of staying up.”
