Ellie May becomes seventh summer signing for Claret Women

Burnley FC Women are pleased to confirm the signing of Ellie May following her departure from Derby County Women, also in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League.

The 22-year-old striker has been with the Ewe Rams for the last two and a half years, making 15 appearances last term and helping them to a 2nd place finish.

Also previously spending time in America with Rider University’s women’s soccer team, May is an England youth international and has toured Spain alongside the young Lionesses.

Additionally, The forward worked alongside Jonathan Morgan at Leicester City Women, and is delighted to be a Claret for the 2022/23 campaign.

She said: “I joined Burnley for a new challenge and a new environment. I already knew Jonathan because I’d played for him before, so I was excited to rejoin him and play for one of his teams again.

“The girls have all been really lovely since I started training with them a few weeks ago, and I’m just really buzzing to get going now.

“I’m very competitive and I always want to win. I always want to score goals and just help the team, whether that be with an assist or a goal. I’m very attacking, very positive, and a team player.”

Alongside her playing career, May is heavily involved in football day-to-day, part of the team at Barnsley FC’s community programme. She has also worked with Sheffield United previously.

Clarets boss Morgan couldn’t be happier to have her on board at Burnley. He said: “I'm delighted to get Ellie on board. I've worked with her in the past and I am pleased to get this one over the line.

"She is a very versatile player with heaps of technical ability and I am looking forward to seeing her progress this season. Ellie will be a great asset for us."

Having already featured for the Claret women in pre-season, and found the back of the net, May is in contention for a return to former side Derby on the opening day of the campaign.

She joins Leah Embley, Alanta Brown, Ellie York, Aimee Kelly, Lucy Walsh and Lou Lou Newton as a summer recruit.
