Club captain leads Clarets out for last time

The visit of Liverpool Feds to Turf Moor today was Burnley Women’s captain Thea Paul's last game for the Club.

Paul joined the Clarets as Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk’s first signing last summer and made an immediate impact in pre-season, earning the right to wear the captain’s armband.

The left-back made 18 appearances in all competitions including the entirety of the 3-0 victory this afternoon, scoring four times in the process.

Her latest goal was a powerful left-footed strike from 20 yards plus in the recent 9-0 victory over AFC Fylde at the County Ground, Leyland.

On the news, she said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Burnley, but I’ve had to make the difficult decision to leave to pursue a career opportunity that I just couldn’t turn down.

“Ever since I joined last summer I’ve felt part of the group, and I’d like to think I’ve made some friendships that will last going forward.

“Working with all the staff and players has been a pleasure and I’ve learnt lots of new things both on and off the pitch, as well as making some great memories.

“I wish everybody connected with the Club all the best for the future and I’ll be cheering on from afar next season.

“Finally, I’d like to thank all the fans who have supported myself and the team this season both at home and away. It hasn’t gone unnoticed and has made a huge difference every time I’ve taken to the field. “

Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk added: “Thea has been an excellent Club captain since joining last summer.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with her during her time at Burnley and I have no doubt she will excel in her next venture. I wish her all the best of luck in the future.”
