Head Coach Scott Parker admitted his side 'fell a bit short' on New Year's Day, as the Clarets were held to a 0-0 draw against Stoke City at Turf Moor.

Burnley had opportunities to win the tight contest, but couldn't find the back of the net, in a result that saw the hosts seal a 16th clean sheet of the season and extend their unbeaten run to 12 matches.

Speaking post-match at a wet and windy Turf Moor, Parker highlighted his frustration at not coming away with all three points.

“There’s a frustration in general. I think there’s no denying we fell a little bit short today. Endeavour, work rate, desire, passion, I think we saw that but we just fell a bit short in terms of the final third or the execution.

“It’s two games now on the spin where we’ve had a massive chance at the end of the game. If they go in we come out of here with three points, but that wasn’t the case. It wasn’t meant to be.

“We keep moving though. It’s another game undefeated, another game where we kept a clean sheet. I understand maybe now isn’t the time to reference that because people don’t want to hear it, but I think it’s fair to say."

On the performance itself, Parker added: “It’s the final bit, from our box to their box. We get there, but we need to carve out better chances and we need to execute at the final stages of it.

“That’s a work in progress for us, but it’s exactly what we will maintain. I’m not going to get too down. While we came here wanting three points, we come out of here with a draw. It’s not ideal, of course not, but what you see in this league is that every weekend there are surprises.

“I have been around this division for a long time and I know the emotional rollercoaster it can bring. I often say to the players, you need to strap yourself in for the rollercoaster and everything it brings.

“Stoke came here and did a very good job. We didn’t manage to break that down or execute the chances we had.”
