Burnley boss Scott Parker expressed his pride of his team and their impressive performance on Monday night, as the Clarets cruised to a 4-1 victory at Kenilworth Road in Parker’s first game in charge.
Josh Brownhill opened the scoring before Wilson Odobert, Dara O’Shea and Vitinho all got on the scoresheet in Luton.
Speaking post-match in Bedfordshire, Parker had high praise for his team’s display and highlighted the game plan ‘execution’ against the Hatters.
Parker said: “It was pleasing all around. It’s a very good result and performance-wise I thought we were everything I wanted us to be.
“We executed a game plan on both sides of the game, in terms of out of possession and in possession.
“A lot of work has gone into the team in the last four weeks but even more so a real amount of intense work has gone in this week to get a result at a really difficult place to come. We understood that.”
Parker added: “What makes it more difficult is the way they play, they’re a man-for-man team that are pretty aggressive in certain moments. If you get it wrong it can cause you problems.
“But as I said, I’m extremely proud of the team, more so for the execution of the information I gave them. It was a bright team performance all around.”
The Clarets boss was pleased to see four different goal scorers get off the mark and was impressed with the finishing shown from his side.
“That was very pleasing. The first two goals were exactly what we set out to do in terms of runners in behind, a platform from our front three boys who needed to be strong and take the ball under pressure against an aggressive back three.
“I thought all of our goals were very good.”
The game saw Parker hand a debut to Lucas Pires in defence and the Brazilian put in an outstanding performance as well as grabbing two assists.
The Clarets chief applauded the left-back’s showing: “I thought he was very good, he looked every bit of what I’ve seen from him over the last four weeks.
“This is a boy that’s come to a new country. English wise he’s limited and your first game is at Luton away. But he was every bit of what I expected him to be having looked at him from training. He was superb.”
