Clarets striker Joel Mumbongo is in the running to be named the Premier League 2’s player-of-the-month for November.

Mumbongo is on an eight-man shortlist for the award after scoring two big goals for the Clarets’ Under-23s last month.

The former Sweden Under-19 international came off the bench to score a late equaliser as Steve Stone’s side drew 2-2 with Aston Villa.

And the 21-year-old then scored what turned out to be the winner against Fulham with a superb solo effort sealing a 2-1 victory and the Clarets’ second win of the campaign in the league’s second division.

Mumbongo, who joined Burnley last year following an impressive loan spell, is up against Liam Delap of Manchester City, Alfie Matthews of Crystal Palace, Liam Millar of Liverpool, Arsenal’s Nikolaj Moller, Jaden Philogene-Bidace of Aston Villa, Arnau Puigmal of Manchester United and Fulham forward Jean-Pierre Tiehi for the award.

The shortlist was chosen by the Premier League’s Football Development Panel, after PL2 club coaches nominated the best performance by an opposing player in each of their matches during the month. The panel will also select the winner.

Manchester City’s Cole Palmer won October’s award, while Leeds United’s Sam Greenwood was the September winner.

Mumbongo missed from the penalty spot as the Clarets drew their last game 0-0 at Norwich City but will be looking to add to his tally when Stone’s side resumes their campaign at Stoke City tonight (Monday).

After putting together an unbeaten three-match run, the Clarets will be aiming to move back off the foot of table with victory at Stoke’s Clayton Wood training ground (KO 7pm).
