Jonathan Morgan says his are putting in the hard work needed on the training pitch this week ahead of Sunday’s trip to Loughborough, and wants them to put the last fortnight behind them.
The Claret Women lost their unbeaten run with a League Cup exit at high-flying Nottingham Forest before bowing out of the FA Cup last Sunday with a defeat at home against Cardiff City Ladies.
Returning to league action this weekend for the first time in nearly three months, Morgan said: “We’re naturally disappointed, and this week we’ve assessed stuff on the pitch as well as on it, but it’s all about learning from those mistakes and moving forward now.
“I’m a real believer that you should never forget the feeling of losing because it makes you never want to lose a game ever again.
“The probability of that in football is obviously very minimal, we’re not kidding ourselves with that, but you’ve got to forget a game like the one we had against Cardiff.”
Burnley haven’t lost a league game since March 2022, and Morgan has his sights set on ensuring that record remains for as long as possible.
In order to do so, and return to winning ways when they travel to the Midlands on Sunday, the boss wants his side to adopt tunnel-vision.
Morgan added, “We have to put that Cardiff game in particular out of our memories, and essentially live like we’re all goldfish.
“It was a cup game, and sometimes it’s written in the stars for teams to progress in cups like Cardiff did, or for teams not to progress as we didn’t manage to.
“On another day, we’d have about eight goals with the chances that we created, but we’ve got to have a five second memory about us and move on.
“It sounds stupid but that is my lasting message to the girls ahead of this weekend, live like a goldfish.”
Entry at the Holywell Sports Complex on Sunday will cost £4 for adults and £2.50 for concessions with students & U16s free of charge.
