Liverpool Feds are a side that women’s team midfielder Brenna McPartlan has had relatively good success against of late.

The holding midfielder has found the back of the net that last two times Burnley have faced the Merseysiders, including a dramatic late winner at Jericho Lane earlier this season.

With the Clarets welcoming Feds to Lancashire on Wednesday night, McPartlan says he is looking forward to the match but has sounded a note of caution given the quality of the opposition.

“It’s always a tough game against Feds because they’re a really good team with great players who are organised,” she said.

“I remember the feeling when we scored that winner and that might turn out to be an important goal come the end of the season.

“Just before the corner came in, I said to the referee ‘make sure you don’t blow until they’ve properly cleared it’.

“They got the first contact and Grace (Palmer) got on the end of it on the edge and we were all shouting ‘shoot’.

“I didn’t know if it was going in or not and I just got a touch on it to make sure.”

McPartlan is a key part of Rebecca Sawiuk’s midfield, starting all 13 league games to date and scoring six times in the process.

Since the turn of the year the Clarets have been in red hot form, and the last few games have seen the Northern Ireland international be joined by Amelia Hazard and Rhema Lord-Mears as the midfield three.

Their latest outing was a 7-0 victory at Halifax on Sunday afternoon, in which five different players found the back of the net.

Speaking about that match in Yorkshire, she continued: “It was a great team win on a tough pitch and everybody contributed.

“Since we’ve came back in January we’ve been on fire in terms of goals. We’re not really bothered about goal difference, though - we just want to keep scoring and winning games.

“Consistency helps in terms of building those relationships, as we are still quite a new trio playing together. It’s been flowing nicely though.

“I love playing night games because they’re something different under the lights and we’ll be just as prepared as ever.”
