Brenna Mcpartlan reiterated that she and her Burnley Women team-mates are fully focussed on their own performances and results ahead of this weekend’s trip to Nottingham Forest.
The Clarets sit second in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League, five points behind leaders Newcastle United but with two games in hand.
Sunday’s opponents are just two points and a place behind Rebecca Sawiuk’s team and come into this one on the back of a 2-1 victory over Newcastle.
“It’s a huge game on Sunday and Nottingham Forest are a great team, but we’re just focusing on ourselves,” Mcpartlan said.
“Training’s been good this week and we’ll do what we can to get all three points - I don’t think our victory over Forest earlier this season bears any real significance ahead of this one.
“They’ve changed and improved quite a lot since then with the addition of new players and others returning from injury. We’ve improved massively too, however, and continue to do so each week, so it’s going to be a completely different game but one we’re prepared for.”
Mcpartlan dropped to the bench as one of seven changes to the starting XI for last weekend’s 6-0 victory over AFC Fylde in the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup.
However, after being introduced at halftime, the midfielder went on to score two goals in the latter stages.
Reflecting on the game, she said: “Conditions were really tough with the rain and wind from the storm, so overall it was a pretty good performance, and we were pleased to get the win.
“The changes just show the strength in depth we have in the squad. The level of the team doesn’t drop when people come off the bench and that’s testament to how hard we work and push each other.”
“I don’t score too often but I am tending to do so in quite a few cup games at the moment!
It’s always nice to find the back of the net but the team getting the win was the most important thing.
“In training I always try and get forward and in amongst the goals – it’s fun and such a good feeling, but it’s not something I’ve particularly been working on. I know it’s something I’m capable of, but it’s all about picking and choosing the time to go in my defensive midfield role.”
Kick-off at Grange Park (NG10 2EF) is 2pm on Sunday 28th January, and supporters can purchase tickets online via Nottingham Forest HERE. Adults can gain entry for £4, while over-65s, under-18s and students with a valid NUS card are £4. If you can’t make it to the ground, the game will be streamed live on TikTok @BurnleyOfficial.
