Club committed to furthering team’s development

Brenna McPartlan says she and her Burnley Women teammates are looking forward to the occasion of playing at Turf Moor against Sporting Khalsa this afternoon.

However, the midfielder stressed the importance of not letting the stadium’s added grandeur affect their preparations for what will be a tough test against an in-form side.

The match is the Clarets’ 31st and last of the 2024/25 season, and three points could be enough to see them finish 3rd in the table if other results go their way.

Led by Interim Head Coach Louise Roberts, the team head into it on the back of an emphatic 7-0 victory over Halifax last time out.

McPartlan netted her ninth goal of the season against the Yorkshire outfit when she finished from beyond the near post to make it 2-0 in the 35th minute.

“It’s been a long season with lots of ups and downs, but we’re looking to end on a high on Sunday,” she said.

“The win over Halifax was good for our spirits and to gain some momentum back.

“One of my aims this season was to score a few more goals in the league and I think I’ve done that, which I’m happy about.

“Taking set pieces has of course helped, but I have been trying to get slightly higher up the pitch too.

“It’s not always possible, so whenever I do score it’s a good feeling and it would be great if I were able to hit double figures on Sunday.”

This is Sporting Khalsa’s first ever season at tier three level and after an indifferent start, the Midlanders have been resurgent of late.

Indeed, Andy Mulligan’s side have won their last two league outings against Liverpool Feds and Stourbridge by a combined score of 11-0.

Burnley came out on top when these two teams met at the Guardian Warehousing Arena back in November though, with Laura Elford netting a brace either side of a Tilly Wilkes free-kick.

McPartlan continued: “I remember it being a tough game against Khalsa.

“They were aggressive and worked really hard. I know they’ve been getting some good results recently too, so we’re definitely expecting a tough test.

“We’ll focus on ourselves, try and take the positives from Halifax and do our best replicate that on Sunday.”

Playing at Turf Moor is becoming more familiar to Roberts’ players now, with today’s match being the fourth time they will have played there this season.

There were fantastic scenes in BB10 earlier this week as the men’s team gained promotion to the Premier League, with the Claret Women in attendance to get behind their fellow players.

Ahead of taking to the pitch herself, Northern Ireland international McPartlan recognised the difference playing at Turf Moor has on the women’s team.

“The key thing for us is to try and make it not feel different to any other home game,” she said.

“Obviously it is a nice occasion to play on a really good pitch and maybe play in front of a few more fans than we normally would, so we’re all really excited.

“Having the fans behind us has a massive impact, as it pushes us on and keeps us going.

“It’s a great time at the Club following the men’s team’s success earlier this week, so hopefully we can get some more fans down to carry on the feel-good factor.

“We’ve obviously not got the outcome we wanted from this season, but I think there have been plenty of ups.

“We’ve learnt a lot as individuals and as a group too, so hopefully we can push on from that when we head into next season.”

Burnley season ticket holders can gain entry to the Sporting Khalsa match for free, but are asked to claim their complimentary ticket in advance of arriving at the stadium.
