Second-half goals from the Hammers saw the Clarets fall to a narrow 3-2 defeat to West Ham United at London Stadium.

In a tight contest throughout, the Hammers won it thanks to late strikes from substitutes Tomas Soucek and Kyle Walker-Peters.

Earlier on, Zian Flemming’s third goal of the season put the visitors in front on 35 minutes, with the Dutchman heading home from close range from Lesley Ugochukwu's cross.

Callum Wilson levelled matters just before the break for the hosts though, after capitalising on a ricochet in the box to nod the Hammers on level terms.

Both sides went in search of a winner in the second half, but it was the home side who won it, thanks to Soucek’s 77th minute close-range finish and a late Walker-Peters goal.

Josh Cullen did pull one back late on, but time was up, as the Hammers held on for the three points.

On a mild afternoon in East London, it was Burnley who fashioned the first chance of note on the quarter hour mark, when Quilindschy Hartman’s enticing cross just evaded the onrushing Flemming – when surely a touch of any note would have put the visitors ahead.

The Clarets were on top, and Parker’s side went close again in the 25th minute, when Lesley Ugochukwu’s strike from the edge of the box was deflected wide.

Next, it was the recalled Loum Tchaouna who let fly from range, capitalising on a loose ball 18-yards out, but once again a Hammers body was in the way to divert the ball to safety.

The goal the Clarets deserved eventually arrived in the 35th minute and it was Flemming who was in the right place at the right time to get it.

Ugochukwu’s cross was flighted to perfection, and Flemming rose highest to nod the visitors in front.

Soon after the opening goal, Jarrod Bowen’s shot from distance was deflected wide, but the Hammers weren’t to be denied on the stroke of half-time.

Wilson seized on a loose ball in the box, heading home from close range to bring the hosts level at the break.

After a quiet opening to the second period, the Clarets created the first chance of the half; Flemming heading onto the roof of the net from eight yards out.

Parker made his first change midway through the half, with Jacob Bruun Larsen replacing Tchaouna.

As the game became more open, Ugochukwu headed straight at Alphonse Areola, before Parker went to his bench again, with Hannibal and Armando Broja entering the fray at the expense of Ugochukwu and Flemming.

But it was the Hammers who would score the all-important third goal of the game 13 minutes from time, with Soucek prodding the ball home at the back post after Lucas Paqueta’s initial shot was parried into his path by Martin Dúbravka.

Parker made further changes late on, but it was the hosts who finished with a flourish, with Walker-Peters tapping home after Soucek’s strike fell at his feet.

Remarkably, there was still time for a fifth goal of the contest in added time, as Cullen bagged his second of the season when Areola fumbled Hannibal’s longe range shot and the Burnley skipper was on hand to finish.

Unfortunately for the Clarets, it was too little too late, as Burnley tasted defeat ahead of the international break.
