Burnley's unbeaten Sky Bet Championship run was extended to 10 matches on Boxing Day, as the Clarets came out on top against the Blades at Bramall Lane with a deserved 2-0 victory.

After an even first-half, the Clarets opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time when Brownhill met Bashir Humphreys' cross with a back-post header for his ninth goal of the campaign, before Zian Flemming's effort extended the visitors' advantage just after the break.

Scott Parker named an unnamed XI from last weekend’s win over Watford, with a welcomed return to the bench for striker Lyle Foster.

There wasn’t much to separate the two sides in the opening stages of the first-half, with both teams looking to get a hold of the ball and try to carve out an early opportunity.

Burnley’s first real effort on goal came from a corner, as Jaidon Anthony played the ball to Josh Brownhill on the edge of the area, but the midfielder’s effort fizzed just wide of the target.

With the break approaching, both teams were yet to strike an effort on target, until Brownhill broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time.

Humphreys raced down the left flank, before whipping a perfect ball into the area towards the back-post, with Brownhill there to connect and head home his ninth goal of the campaign past Michael Cooper.

That goal gave the Clarets the lead at the break, in what was an even contest in the opening 45 minutes.

The Blades came out searching for an equaliser in the second-half and came close to that when a free-kick from Gustavo Hamer found Harry Souttar, but the towering centre-back could only head the ball straight at James Trafford.

However, it was the Clarets who then struck again just before the hour mark. Zian Flemming’s free-kick from the edge of the area took a deflection off Cullen on it’s way in, taking it over the head of Cooper and looping into the back of the net.

Not long after Trafford was forced into action to keep the lead at 0-2, stopping Kieffer Moore's effort from inside the area with a smart stop.

Brownhill came close to adding a third of the afternoon, after the skipper weaved into the area, but saw his effort denied by the hands of Cooper.

With the game approaching the full-time whistle, Parker then made his first changes of the game. Foster and Egan replaced Hannibal and Flemming, with the South African striker making his first appearance since October.

Burnley stood strong to ensure that not only all three points returned to Lancashire, but a 14th clean sheet of the season was also sealed.
