Burnley's remarkable defensive record and unbeaten run continued on Saturday afternoon, as the Clarets secured an 11th straight clean sheet in the Sky Bet Championship and extended their undefeated run to 22 consecutive matches following a 0-0 draw at Deepdale.

The Clarets created plenty of chances and were looking the most dangerous of the two teams, with Lyle Foster and Jaidon Anthony coming closest for the away side.

Despite Scott Parker's side knocking on the door in the final stages and looking to steal a late winner in the Lancashire derby, the North End defence stood resilient to ensure a goalless draw.

Head Coach Parker named an unchanged team from the side that beat Hull City on Wednesday, with Josh Brownhill coming back to the bench following his recent absence through injury.

There was an early opportunity for Burnley with six minutes on the clock, as Anthony won possession back and drove towards the North End goal, before rifling wide of the target from the edge of the box.

The hosts looked to respond to that early chance, as Milutin Osmajic was played through towards goal, only for CJ Egan-Riley to do what he does best and swipe the ball well away from the feet of the striker.

Preston had come alive after a slow start and had another opportunity just before the half-hour mark, but Kaine Kesler-Hayden’s back-post strike was blocked well by Maxime Esteve to keep the scores level.

It was a relatively quiet first-half in terms of real chances on goal and Zian Flemming’s first bit of action came 10 minutes before the break, however the Dutchman could only guide it over the crossbar from a ball over the top of the North End defence.

Connor Roberts then forced Freddie Woodman into action five minutes later, as the Welshman looked to pick out the back of the net from a short corner routine, but Woodman was there to palm it away for another corner.

The best and final chance of the half fell to Foster, when Hannibal picked out Flemming, who laid it off to Foster, with the forward only able to fire over the goal from close range.

Burnley started the second-half where they left off and had a glorious opportunity to take the lead with just five minutes played, as Foster latched onto a loose ball in the area but flashed it just wide of the target.

Preston came close to snatching the opener themselves on the hour mark, when Brad Potts struck an effort which fizzed narrowly wide of the post.

Parker then turned to his bench with over 20 minutes left to play, with Marcus Edwards and Josh Brownhill replacing Hannibal and Foster.

The Clarets were dominating and creating chances, with the next falling Anthony’s way, however the winger could only curl it around the post from inside the area after cutting inside.

There was then a late penalty chance for the visitors, after Edwards had just seen his cross blocked over the bar by Ryan Porteous, the on-loan winger was then hacked down inside the area, but referee Andrew Kitchen waved away any appeals.
