A goalless draw at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday afternoon saw Burnley add another point to their 2024/25 season tally.
The Clarets dominated the majority of the game and had chances through Lyle Foster, Jeremy Sarmiento and Luca Koleosho, but neither side could break the deadlock.
Head Coach Scott Parker named two changes to his starting XI as Sarmiento replaced Jaidon Anthony out wide, whilst Bashir Humphreys returned from suspension and came into the side for Joe Worrall.
Following a quiet opening 20 minutes in Oxfordshire, the first real opportunity of the game fell to Foster, after Koleosho broke into the area and squared for the South African striker, but Foster could only fire the ball over the target from close range.
The striker had another opportunity just before the half-hour mark, as Foster charged forward on the attack and saw his effort pushed round the post by Cumming for a corner.
In a fairly quiet first-half, Parker’s side came close to taking the lead just before the break when Sarmiento met Josh Brownhill’s free-kick inside the box, but the Ecuadorian’s header sailed just over the crossbar and the two teams went into half-time level.
United’s first chance on goal came two minutes into the second-half, when defender Elliott Moore rose highest at a corner but saw his header saved comfortably by Trafford.
But the Clarets, who enjoyed the majority of possession in the opening 45 minutes, then had another chance to break the deadlock in the 50th minute, when Luca Koleosho saw his stinging effort from the right palmed over by Cumming.
Hannibal then came close right on the hour mark but the midfielder’s strike fizzed wide of the target, as the visitors edged closer to goal.
Burnley had another opportunity minutes later, when Koleosho burst into the area and fired a low ball across the face of goal, which eventually fell to Sarmiento at the back-post, but the winger could only fire over the target.
Parker made his first change of the afternoon with 20 minutes to play, as Jaidon Anthony replaced Sarmiento on the wing, before Hannibal and Foster then both made way for Jay Rodriguez and Andreas Hountondji in the 79th minute with the match still goalless.
Despite the away side pushing for a late winner, the U's held on to just about keep the Clarets out and ensure the points were shared.
