Burnley were denied their first three points of the season against Nottingham Forest on Monday night after Zeki Amdouni’s perfectly-hit strike was cancelled out by Callum Hudson-Odoi’s second half effort.
Amdouni, who struck the winner in the Carabao Cup victory in Nottingham last month, gave the visitors the lead once again at the City Ground just before the break with a sweet finish, before Forest debutant Hudson-Odoi then curled home the equaliser for the hosts on the hour mark.
Manager Vincent Kompany made two changes from the side that played 16 days ago against Spurs at Turf Moor.
Charlie Taylor and Josh Brownhill were handed their first starts of the Premier League season replacing Dara O’Shea and Sander Berge respectively.
Deadline day signing Mike Tresor was named on the bench for the first time since joining the Club.
First Half
It didn’t take the Clarets long to get their foot on the gas with the first shot on target coming just three minutes in, after Foster spun the oncoming Sangare and left him behind before racing towards goal but his effort was straight at Turner.
Awoniyi looked to add his tally to the season with just over 10 minutes played when Hudson-Odoi cut-back the ball to the Nigerian forward, but an excellent block from Al-Dakhil denied the striker a shot on goal.
The roles were reversed just a few minutes later when Awoniyi turned provider and teed up Hudson-Odoi on the edge of the area to curl a strike towards goal which Trafford was equal to and palmed away as the hosts began to apply the pressure.
Gibbs-White was the next to try break the deadlock for Forest, after charging into the area with Taylor and Al-Dakhil blocking the initial dummy effort, the former Wolves man then dinked the ball to the far post only to be cleared away from danger by Roberts.
Burnley responded to Forest’s flurry of chances with a couple of their own when Roberts picked out Koleosho unmarked in the box with a ball over the top only for his cut-back to be intercepted by Mangala, before Amdouni tried his luck from distance but his fierce low strike was pushed away by Turner for a corner.
The half-hour mark passed and it was Kompany’s side’s turn to attempt to grab the opener, this time Cullen weaved into the box and struck a low cross across the face of goal which narrowly missed Foster lurking yards out.
The pressure paid off though and the visitors got their deserved opener after a spell of pressure and it was the lively Koleosho involved once again, with the 19-year-old causing havoc amongst the Forest defence.
The young Italian raced past Worrall and burst into the area, before cutting it back with the help of a slight deflection to Amdouni on the edge of the box to drill home into the bottom corner and give the Clarets the lead heading into the break.
Second Half
It took just four minutes into the second half for the away side to win their first corner as Koleosho and Amdouni did their best to replicate the opening goal, with the Swiss’ effort taking a deflection wide.
Forest were pushing for an equaliser and Gibbs-White had an opportunity to snatch it just before the hour, but his header from Elanga’s cross sailed over the bar.
But just four minutes later the hosts did have their equaliser as Hudson-Odoi curled the ball home into the far corner past Trafford to draw the scores level on the hour mark.
Trailing with just under half-an-hour plus stoppage time to paly, Kompany turned to his bench and introduced the duo of Zaroury and Berge for Gudmundsson and Amdouni in search of a second.
It was the Norwegian substitute who then looked to have teed up the winner in the 76th minute, after picking out Foster to slot home from close range but the goal was ruled out after Berge was adjudged to handle in the build-up.
As Burnley pushed for a winning goal and applied pressure in stoppage time, Kompany’s side were reduced to 10 men when Foster was shown a straight red card.
