Burnley continued their Sky Bet Championship unbeaten run on Sunday night, after a 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough saw the points shared at the Riverside Stadium.

There were opportunities for the Clarets throughout the game to claim all three points, with Josh Brownhill and Jaidon Anthony coming closest.

Scott Parker named an unchanged XI once again, with Jeremy Sarmiento returning to the bench, after missing the last three games through concussion protocol.

It was a quiet opening between the two sides, with no real opportunities for either team up until after the 18th minute.

Jaidon Anthony, who was looking lively down the right flank, broke down the wing and fired a dangerous cross into the area, but it narrowly missed the lurking Zian Flemming.

Boro striker Emmanuel Latte Lath then had an opportunity of his own two minutes later, but the forward could only guide his header over the target from close range.

Anthony was looking dangerous and carved open another chance midway through the first-half, however the winger’s effort from the edge of the box sailed over the crossbar.

The hosts came closest to grabbing the opener when James Trafford raced out to clear the ball away from danger, before Delano Burgzorg stole possession and curled it inches wide of an empty goal.

With neither side able to break the deadlock in a tight opening 45 minutes on Teesside, the two sides went into half-time goalless.

The first effort of the second-half fell to Finn Azaz, as the former Plymouth man fired from outside the area, but Trafford was equal to the Irishman’s tame effort.

Parker’s side unlocked another opportunity of their own shortly after when Hannibal broke into the box and looked to tee up Flemming, but a crucial George Edmundson interception took it away from the Dutch forward.

The Clarets were then denied the opener just before the hour mark, as Boro defender Dael Fry blocked Brownhill’s effort on the line, after the Burnley skipper latched onto Tom Glover’s punched clearance.

With the visitors dominating and controlling the opening stages of the second-half, Parker made his first change of the night with Sarmiento replacing Hannibal.

Trafford was forced into action with just over 20 minutes left on the clock, with the keeper having to push away Azaz’s curling strike.

The best chance of the game then fell to Josh Brownhill. Anthony nipped past Neto Borges and into the area, before teeing up Brownhill, but the midfielder could only place it over the target from close range.

With the clock ticking down, the Clarets made a double change with Jay Rodriguez and Luca Koleosho replacing Flemming and Anthony. Lyle Foster making a cameo appearance in the final moments.

Despite efforts from the visitors to clinch a late winning goal, neither side could find a way through and the points were shared once again between the two teams.
