Clarets travel to the North East to face the Mackems

Burnley are in Monday Night Football action for match-round 24, as Scott Parker's men gear up to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The Clarets head to Wearside unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions, with draws against Manchester United, Liverpool and Spurs in the Premier League, and a win over Millwall in the Emirates FA Cup.

Prior to taking on the Black Cats, Parker's side remain in 19th place, five points off West Ham in 18th and 10 points off Nottingham Forest in 17th.

Monday's hosts Sunderland currently occupy 11th in the league table, but have won just two games in their last 10 fixtures in the Premier League.

The opposition

Sunderland are more than enjoying life back in the Premier League, after Régis Le Bris guided the Black Cats back to the top-flight, following relegation in 2017.

The Mackems currently sit 11th in the league table, after picking up eight wins, nine draws and six defeats this campaign and they remain the only side in the league unbeaten at home all season.

After an opening day 3-0 win against West Ham United, the Clarets then defeated Sunderland in their first away trip of the season, with that defeat being Le Bris' side's only loss in the opening two months of the campaign.

It's also been a season of memorable moments and results for the Mackems, especially across the winter months of November and December, which saw Sunderland beat Chelsea and arch rivals Newcastle United, and secure draws against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Since the turn of the new year, the Black Cats have won two games in all competitions, with those victories coming against Crystal Palace in the league and Everton in the Emirates FA Cup.

However, Le Bris' men do still remain unbeaten at the Stadium of Light from their 11 leagues games, with six wins and five draws and the Wearside club will be aiming to continue that on Monday.

"Sunderland have done incredibly well.

"They've obviously invested a huge amount of money and we're probably seeing a totally different squad to the one they were last year.

"The momentum for them earlier in the season where they picked up points has probably pushed them.

"It's a tough place and the stadium is hostile as well, so we know what we're coming up against - albeit a very different team. But, we've faced them already this year and got a positive result, so we'll be ready."
