Clarets take on the Black Cats under the Turf lights

Burnley continue their Sky Bet Championship campaign on Friday night (8pm), as Scott Parker's side host Sunderland at Turf Moor.

The Clarets head into Friday's clash on a 14 match unbeaten run in all competitions, with Burnley still undefeated on home soil this campaign.

Parker's men are currently in 2nd place in the Championship table before this weekend's fixtures and a victory against the Black Cats would move the hosts to top spot.

Sunderland come into the encounter with just two wins from their last five games in all competitions and currently sit 4th in the league table, 10 points ahead of 7th place outside the play-offs.

The opposition

10 consecutive seasons in the Premier League came to an end for Sunderland in 2017 following relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.

Following just a season in the second tier, the Black Cats found themselves in League One with back-to-back relegations.

After three attempts to get out of the third tier and four managers later, Sunderland achieved it at the fourth time of asking via the play-offs in 2022.

The north east side secured a play-off place on their return to the Championship under Tony Mowbray, but missed out on the play-off final, after losing to eventual winners Luton in the semi-finals.

A disappointing 16th place finish last season for a young Sunderland side saw a summer of change at the Stadium of Light, as Frenchman Regis Le Bris was appointed boss in July.

After a dream start and winning the opening four Championship fixtures, the former Lorient boss has guided the Black Cats towards the top end of the table, with Sunderland currently in the play-off places.

Sunderland's last league defeat came on the 29th of December to Stoke City, who they lost again to last time out in the Emirates FA Cup last weekend and all four of their league losses this campaign have all come away from home.

What Scott Parker said

"They're big games, of course they are, but they're all big games in this league. We would have this same conversation if we were on a losing streak of three games and we're playing a team sat in 13th, you would also be saying this next game is humongous.

"Sunderland at home and Leeds at home are two big games for us. Maybe there's a different approach to how these teams want to come and set up against us, certainly at Turf Moor and that may suit a little bit.

"But I reiterate, this is a game of football on Friday night against a very, very good side and we just need to keep doing what we're doing.

"We need to keep improving for sure, but we need to keep adopting the same attitudes, the same approach of what we've done for large parts of this season and that's given us a platform to be where we are. My feeling is we carry on along those lines and we'll keep also improving."
