Burnley return to Sky Bet Championship action at Turf Moor on Friday night, as Scott Parker's men host Sheffield Wednesday live on Sky Sports.

The Clarets go into this weekend on a 22 match unbeaten run in all competitions and still remain undefeated at Turf Moor all season.

Parker's side are currently in third place in the league table and a win on Friday night would close the gap to just two points behind the Blades, who face Leeds United on Monday.

Meanwhile, Wednesday arrive in Lancashire in ninth place and have had a mix of results this campaign, with 12 wins, 12 defeats and nine draws, which sees the Owls just outside the play-off places.

The opposition

Wednesday are in their second season back in the Sky Bet Championship, following promotion from League One in the 2022/23 campaign.

The Yorkshire side only spent two seasons away from the second tier following relegation in 2021, after spending nine years in the Championship prior to that.

The Owls came close to promotion to the Premier League on two occasions during that spell, with back-to-back play-off finishes between 2016 and 2017, but Wednesday fell short at Wembley against Hull City, before losing to Huddersfield Town in the semi-finals the season after.

Following 15th and 16th finishes across the next three campaigns after the play-off heartbreak, Wednesday were relegated to League One in 2021 after a 24th place finish.

It looked like an instant return to the second tier was on the cards in the 2021/22 season, but another play-off semi final defeat to Sunderland saw the Owls remain.

However, their second attempt was a successful one, as the Blue & White side of Sheffield were victorious in the play-off final against Barnsley at Wembley to ensure their place back in the Championship.

After surviving in the first season back, Wednesday have progressed this season, with the Owls just outside the play-off places following 12 wins and 12 defeats in the Sky Bet Championship.

In the away dugout

Following a brief playing career with the likes of FSV Zwickau, Sachsen Leipzig and Eilenburg, Röhl began his coaching career at RB Leipzig and had spells with Southampton and Bayern Munich, before becoming a coach within the German national team set-up.

October 2023 saw Röhl appointed boss of Sheffield Wednesday and in doing so became the youngest manager in the EFL. The German's first game in charge saw the Owls fall to defeat at Watford, before winning his first game at Hillsborough against Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United.

Two months after joining Wednesday, Röhl was nominated for the Championship Manager of the Month after winning four of their seven Championship fixtures.

It was the Owls' first season back in the Championship following promotion in 2023 and Röhl managed to guide the Yorkshire club to safety on the final day of the season and ensure second tier football for the present campaign.

“It’s another big test for us. We’re facing a good team, a competitive team that have done very well under their coach.

“As you get to this point in the season, there are always competitive games in this league, so we’re looking forward to what will be a tough game and one which we want to come out the right side of.

"Night games always have that extra feel about them and it always brings that certain atmosphere. Friday night as well. As always, we're going to need the place bouncing.

"We're going to need the support. And our support is right behind us, which has always been the case really. So, there's a big game ahead of us and we're now going into the final third of the season. We need every bit of their support come Friday and ongoing from there really."
