Clarets host the Whites in battle of the roses Turf Moor clash

Burnley are back in Sky Bet Championship action on Monday night, as the Clarets take on Leeds United under the Turf Moor lights.

Scott Parker's side go into the top-of-the-table clash on a 16 match unbeaten run in all competitions and off the back of an impressive 5-0 win over Plymouth on Wednesday night.

The Clarets sit in third place in the league table prior to taking on the Yorkshire side and just three points behind the Whites, meaning a Burnley victory would put the two teams level on points.

United head into the game with three wins from their last five league games, with draws against Hull City and Blackburn Rovers, which sees Daniel Farke's men currently top of the Championship prior to the weekend's fixtures.

The opposition

Following a 10-year spell in the Championship and 16-year absence from the top-flight, Leeds returned to the Premier League in 2020 as Marcelo Bielsa guided the Whites back to the top.

An impressive ninth place finish in the first season back was followed by survival on the last day of the 2021/22 season, before relegation back to the Championship in 2023.

A new era began ahead of last season with Daniel Farke taking charge of the Yorkshire club in the summer and the Whites nearly bounced straight back up to the Premier League immediately under the former Norwich man, but play-off final heartbreak to Southampton at Wembley saw them remain in the second tier for another year.

Leeds have enjoyed a successful 2024/25 campaign so far, winning 17 of their 28 league games and losing just once at home this season, which was to Burnley in September.

United's last defeat came against Blackburn Rovers in November, with Farke's men unbeaten in their last 11 matches in all competitions before the trip to Lancashire.

In the away dugout

After playing for the likes of TuS Paderborn-Neuhaus, SV Lippstadt and SV Wilhelmshaven, Daniel Farke started his managerial career with former side SV Lippstadt and was in charge for six years, including two promotions.

Following a successful time as Lippstadt, Farke departed and joined Borussia Dortmund II, where the German spent two years as manager before joining Norwich City in May 2017.

The Canaries finished 14th in Farke's first campaign at Carrow Road, before guiding City to the Championship title in 2019 and taking the club back to the Premier League.

Despite suffering relegation back to the second tier, Norwich were instantly back in the top-flight, as Farke's side won the league title once again.

September 2021 saw Farke depart Carrow Road and following a brief spell with Krasnodar, the 47-year-old was appointed Head Coach of Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach in June 2022.

The German only spent a season with Monchengladbach, before joining Leeds United last summer on a four-year contract. Farke achieved a third-place finish in his first campaign at Elland Road and narrowly missed out on promotion, after losing to Southampton at Wembley in the play-off final.

What Scott Parker said

"It's a big game for us both. We understand the magnitude of it and what it means and it's two teams coming up against each other that have done very well up to this point.

"They (Leeds) are a really exciting team that have been together as a squad for about 18 months now, with a couple of additions and departures, but overall in general.

"They've got real quality within their team, they can be really dangerous in attack and we experienced that when we played them away from home earlier this season.

"It's a game that both sets of supporters can look forward to and I'm sure they are. The better team on the night will come out victorious."
