Clarets host the Tigers in midweek Championship clash

Burnley are back in Sky Bet Championship action on Wednesday night, as the Clarets host Hull City at Turf Moor under the lights.

Scott Parker's men head into the game on a 20 match unbeaten run in all competitions, having most recently just seen off Premier League opposition Southampton in the Emirates FA Cup at the weekend.

The Clarets currently sit third in the league table prior to the midweek fixtures, just three points behind second placed Sheffield United.

Hull are just a point above the relegation zone in 21st place, but the Tigers head to Lancashire after winning their last three games away from home.

The opposition

After reaching the top-flight for the first time in the club's history in 2008, the Tigers have had plenty of ups and downs over the last few years, with four relegations and three promotions in the last 15 seasons.

Despite staying up with a 17th place finish in their first season in the Premier League, Hull were back in the Championship in 2010, but only spent three seasons before bouncing back up to the top-tier in the 2012/13 campaign.

The following season turned out to be a memorable one for the Yorkshire side, as City secured their highest top-flight finish (16th) and reached the FA Cup final, before being defeated by Arsenal at Wembley.

Relegation back to the second-tier followed the season after in 2015, but they returned instantly via the play-offs, alongside the Clarets who won the Championship. However, the Tigers were relegated once again in 2017 and are yet to return to the Premier League.

In their third year back in the Championship, Hull found themselves relegated once again in 2020, this time to League One, but after winning the third-tier title, City were promoted 12 months later.

There has been gradual success for the Tigers since coming back up to the Championship, as 19th and 15th place finishes were followed by a 7th place finish last season.

After a tricky first-half of the season and a change of manager at the beginning of 2025, City's recent form of two wins in their last four games sees the Yorkshire outfit just outside the relegation zone, heading into the final few months of the season.

In the away dugout

Becoming the 44th full-time manager in Hull City history, Rubén Sellés joined the Tigers from Reading in December 2024 on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Sellés’ first full-time role in professional football came at the start of the 2008/09 campaign, moving to Greece to become an assistant fitness coach at Aris Thessaloniki, before taking up a similar role a year later at Villarreal's youth side.

Taking his first steps into senior management in Russia at Shinnik Yaroslavl, Sellés' journey has also seen him work in Azerbaijan, Norway and Denmark, before moving to England to become assistant manager at Southampton in June 2022.

Earning an impressive 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge when in temporary charge of Southampton, Sellés became manager of the Saints in February 2023.

He was appointed head coach of Reading at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign, recording 35 wins in charge of the Royals, including the club's biggest victory, a 9-0 win over Exeter City.

With the Royals in the play-off places in the League One table, Sellés departed Reading to join current club Hull City.
