The opposition
Following relegation from the Premier League in 2019, this season will be the Bluebirds’ sixth consecutive campaign in the Championship.
In that six-year period in the second tier, City have had eight mangers, with current boss Erol Bulut appointed prior to last season in the June 2023.
The former Turkey international guided the Welsh side to a 12th place finish in his first year at the Cardiff City Stadium, after a disappointing two seasons before that, where Cardiff were close to dropping to League One with 18th and 21st place finishes.
Cardiff made several additions to their squad for this campaign, former Aston Villa duo Callum Chambers and Anwar El Ghazi arrived on free transfers in South Wales, alongside Chris Willock from QPR.
Striker Wilfried Kanga joined on a season-long loan from Hertha Berlin, with Manchester City youngster Alex Robertson arriving on a permanent deal.
Departures were fairly minimal for City with Ebou Adams signing for Cardiff City and the quartet of Sheyi Ojo, Romaine Sawyers, Ollie Denham and Rohan Luthra leaving upon expiry of their contracts.
In the dugout
Born in Bad Schwalbach in Germany, City boss Erol Bulut enjoyed a 20-year playing spell after starting out at Eintracht Frankfurt as a youngster and going on to play for the likes of Fenerbahce, Trabzonspor, 1860 Munich and Olympiakos, before retiring in 2012.
Bulut started his career coaching career shortly after hanging up his boots as assistant coach for Turkish side Kartalspor.
The former Turkey U21 international also spent time at Yeni Malatyaspor, Elazigspor and Istanbul Basaksehir as a coach, before being appointed Head Coach of Malatyaspor in September 2017.
After recently being promoted to Turkey’s top-flight, Bulut guided them to safety in their first season and in the 2018/19 campaign reached the semi-finals of the Turkish Cup.
April 2019 saw Bulut depart his role and have a break before taking on the Head Coach role of Alanyaspor, where he secured a 5th place finish and reached the final of the domestic cup, which saw the club quality for the Europa League qualification rounds for the first time.
Bulut became boss of Fenerbahce in the 2020/21 campaign, but following a brief spell with the Turkish giants, he signed a three-year deal with Gaziantep in May 2021, where he would spend then the next two years, before leaving in January 2023.
Now manager of Cardiff City, Bulut was appointed in the summer of 2023 and sealed a 12th place finish in his first season in South Wales.

What Scott Parker said
"First of all, I'm really excited. It's our first home game, coming into it off the back of a good result on Monday and it really is something for us to look forward to.
"It's a cliché saying, but the supporters really can be your 12th man and there is no truer saying. I've been in the stadium (Turf Moor) before and there is a real energy about the place.
"We need that again this weekend and this season. It's going to be really important for us every game this season, having over 18,000 supporters screaming and shouting to get those 11 players over the line.
"The first time it hit home on Monday was after the game and that energy and connection between the players, staff and the fans, you could see it and feel it even within the goal celebrations.
"Of course, we won the game and got a good result down there but the celebrations and togetherness was just really nice to see and that energy is going to be vital home and away this season, we need all the support we can have to get us over the line in games."
