Centre-back Georgia Marshall described her feeling of disappointment following Burnley Women’s defeat to Nottingham Forest at Grange Park on Sunday afternoon.
"It wasn't the result we wanted, but I thought we worked well as a team,” she said.
“We pushed until the final whistle and showed that we can keep up with the fast pace; it reflects our physical strength.
"Forest came out fierce and aggressive, which was showed through their two goals. But we counter-attacked well and focusing on our defence, we made some crucial blocks and remained calm and composed throughout."
Burnley were forced into two unexpected substitutions in the first half due to injuries, with Bella Reidford and Gracie Prior replacing Brenna Mcartlan and Naomi Hartley. Marshall spoke on the players’ reaction to the situation.
"The two changes in the first half were out of our hands, but I felt the team reacted well. It showed our flexibility and how we are prepared to adapt our play to the circumstances.
"When situations like that happen, it shows our togetherness, and that we are resilient and brave."
Alice Keitley and Mai Moncaster put the Reds into a two-goal lead, and a late goal from substitute Ginny Lackey during additional time was not enough to take anything from the game.
Marshall added: "I thought our attacking players did well to press forward and utilise every opportunity that came, and that showed in Ginny's goal. I am so pleased with her and she deserved to get her name on the scoresheet."
The Clarets face Newcastle United in the next league fixture, and Burnley’s number 5 explained how Rebecca Sawiuk's squad will move forward and prepare:
"We will continue training how we always do, with maximum effort. We will regroup and reflect on the performance against Forest, where we will be able to identify areas we need to develop and improve.
"The squad and I will continue to be positive and go out and give our all in the next game."
