Burnley FC Women are delighted to confirm the signing of Georgia Marshall from fellow FA Women’s National League North outfit Huddersfield Town.
The defender becomes Jay Bradford’s first signing since taking charge of the side on an interim basis, and the Club’s second of the year from the Terriers following the arrival of forward Laura Elford last month.
Yorkshire-born, Marshall’s youth career began with Leeds United. She moved to Doncaster Rovers Belles at 16, and made 23 senior appearances in the 2018/19 campaign.
The Belles were relegated however, and Marshall linked up with Huddersfield come the end of the campaign, maintaining her status as a third-tier player.
Now 20, the defender made a combined 27 senior appearances for the Terriers, along with featuring for their development side, across the next two seasons which were both cut short by the COVID Pandemic.
She eventually became one of their key players last season, making 31 appearances with 29 of those starts and captaining the side on seven separate occasions.
Lifting silverware in the form of the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA County Cup, beating Barnsley 5-0 in the final, Marshall went on to make 16 further appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit this term.
She also scored her first senior goal in September against West Brom, and now links up with Jay Bradford’s squad here at Burnley ahead of a big last few months of the season.
On signing, the defender said: “I’m buzzing to be here. I’ve been around the girls for a week or so, training with them, and was able to go to the 7-0 win against Fylde last week.
“Watching that game has only made me want to get out on the pitch with them more, and I just can’t wait to get going now.
“Laura joined last month and has shared with me how positive everything is here, the support given to the team by the Club, and you can see that with how they’ve performed this season.
“I’m ready to help the team push on now, and hopefully make this a memorable season.”
Meanwhile, interim boss Bradford added, “Georgia is someone we’ve looked at for a while and been impressed with her performances.
“She’s still really young at 20, but you wouldn’t think it with the way she’s a leader on the pitch. To have played as much senior football as she has already shows how much of an asset she can and will be to us.
“I know she will add here to what is an already competitive squad, and has settled in well off the pitch with the girls too who have all made her welcome.”
Marshall – who will take squad number four - will be eligible for this Sunday’s home game against Boldmere St Michaels at the County Ground, Leyland (2pm KO).
