Last season saw seven-year-old super Clarets fan, Luna Elliott, visit Turf Moor and Burnley for the first time in an experience of a lifetime trip via the #TakeMeToTurf competition.
Born and raised in Nebraska, USA to an American mother and English father, Luna’s memorable visit to Lancashire not only saw her meet the first team squad, visit the training ground and attend a Premier League game in the Chairman’s lounge, it also saw her meet her Burnley based grandparents for the first time!
Luna’s father, Burnley-born Daniel, has been a Claret for a life and attended games at Turf Moor on the ‘Longside’ growing up as a youngster in the area, before moving to America and meeting now wife, Trish.
Since Luna was born in 2017, Daniel hasn’t been able to visit the UK and Burnley but that hasn’t stopped the family supporting the Clarets from a far.
The Elliotts watch every Burnley game on a weekend and despite Luna taking part in a local football club, ice hockey team, softball league and gymnastics, none of them can take place on a Saturday morning, because that’s when the Clarets play.
With over 35 Burnley kits sent over to the US over the years gone by from family based in Lancashire, Luna had only seen her beloved team play through a screen until her dream of attending Turf Moor came true earlier this year.
The family entered a video into JJ Watt’s #TakeMeToTurf competition at the beginning of 2024, and turned out to be eventual winners.
The visit saw the family come to the UK and Burnley in an all-expenses trip for over a week, get a tour of the training ground, meet the first team squad and manager and attend the Clarets’ fixture with Newcastle at Turf Moor in the Chairman’s Lounge.
It also allowed Luna to meet Daniel’s parents for the first time in Burnley and bring the family together in a special occasion and moment to remember forever.
