Burnley FC Women are delighted to confirm the signing of Rhema Lord-Mears, following her departure from FA Women’s Championship side Sheffield United.

The midfielder becomes the Claret Women’s second new addition of the summer, as they continue their preparations for the 2023/24 FA Women’s National League North season.

The 27-year-old’s career kicked off in the youth academies of Manchester City’s and Manchester United before eventually joining Sheffield FC in 2015.

After three years with Sheffield FC, she made the move out of English football, and spent a year with Belgian side RSC Anderlecht before returning to the UK with fellow Lancashire side, Blackburn Rovers.

Lord-Mears then made the journey back to Yorkshire to join Sheffield United, where she spent three seasons and was named the Manager’s Player of the Year in 2021, before leaving at the end of the season.

After joining up with her Clarets teammates Lord-Mears said: “I’m buzzing to get started, I’ve already spoken to a lot of the players.

“I’m looking forward to what I hope will be a successful pre-season, so we’ll be ready to go in August.

“I’m willing to give my all to help this Club push for promotion, I’m excited to be a part of what I hope will be a very successful journey with the Clarets.”

New manager Rebecca Sawiuk was also thrilled to have added Lord-Mears as she said: "Rhema is another exciting addition to our squad for this season, she's a player with a real football brain and she sees pockets of spaces and passes other players might not.
