Burnley Football Club can confirm that Leah Embley, Evie Priestley, and Danielle Deehan have left its senior Women’s team squad with immediate effect.
The trio, who are all from Burnley and are supporters of the Club, have made the decision to seek new opportunities.
Embley has enjoyed two spells as a player for her hometown club and was part of the squad that achieved back-to-back promotions between 2017 and 2019.
After spells with Huddersfield Town, AFC Fylde and Brighouse Town, the winger returned to Lancashire in 2022 and had an immediate impact, playing all 22 league matches and scoring eight times.
She continued that consistency into 2023/24, playing most games on the right flank and scoring 10 goals in all competitions.
Priestley joined the Club’s Women’s team set up at the age of nine and formally joined the senior squad eight years later.
The striker was a regular feature in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, scoring 24 and 17 goals respectively in all competitions.
However, injuries meant her game time was limited in 2023/24 and Priestley’s only goal came in the 6-0 Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup semi-final victory over AFC Fylde in January.
Deehan first joined Burnley in 2014 and, after a spell in America, returned to be part of the afore-mentioned back-to-back promotions.
A defender by trade, she has featured at left-back and centre-back in her time as a Claret and helped the team lift the Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup in 2021/22.
Deehan captained the team in the 9-1 Lancashire FA Senior Cup final victory over West Didsbury & Chorlton in May, a fitting end to her time with the Club.
Embley and Priestley were part of the trailblazing squad that made history as the first women’s team to play at Turf Moor in April 2023, too.
We thank all three for their efforts in a Burnley shirt and wish them all the best for the future.
