Matt Lowton wants the Clarets to take the fight to Everton in a bid to make it back-to-back home wins.
Burnley have a decent record against the Toffees at Turf Moor – bar a Boxing Day blip nearly two years ago when a 5-1 defeat proved the turning point in the Clarets’ season.
Sean Dyche’s men have won three of the last four meetings on their own patch, including a 2-1 victory in March, 2018 when the Clarets came from behind to win a game from a losing position for the first time under Dyche in the Premier League.
And Lowton is looking for a response to last weekend’s 5-0 loss at Manchester City and a return to the form the Clarets showed in taking four points from the two previous games against Brighton and Crystal Palace to try and enhance that record further.
“It wasn’t too long ago, and we were right where we needed to be, so we have to take the positives from the Brighton and Palace games and be right on the front foot against Everton,” said the Clarets’ right-back who played his part in successive shut-outs.
“Away at Brighton was solid – a different kind of performance – with a clean sheet and then we moved onto Palace.
“I thought we were very good in that game, on the front foot and got the three points.
“At City we didn’t apply ourselves well enough in the first half and once you’re a couple of goals down against them it’s tough to get back.
“We learn what we need to and move on and hopefully we can be more like the Palace performance against Everton.”
The Clarets moved out of the Premier League’s bottom three with their 1-0 win over Palace before results last weekend saw them fall back down to 19th place.
However, victory over early pace-setters Everton – who have slipped to eighth in the table after losing four of their last five games – in the opening fixture of the weekend (KO 12.30pm) will lift Burnley back out of the relegation places.
And with seven games to come inside the next month, Lowton is looking to build some momentum.
He added: “There are a lot of fixtures coming up and hopefully we can get a couple of wins and it moves you up the table and it starts to look a bit better.
“Now the international breaks have gone there’s more fluidity to the season. The games are one after another so it’s up to us to stay fit and make sure we’re ready to take on the challenge.”
