Jay Bradford’s focus remains very much on Burnley FC Women getting their side of the job done this weekend, but acknowledges just how proud a moment it will be for her to lead the side into a historic first-ever fixture at Turf Moor.
Liverpool Feds are the opponents in BB10 on Sunday afternoon (2pm KO), with Burnley still having an outside chance of winning the FA Women’s National League North title.
To do so, two other results would have to go their way along with three points being picked up here on home soil, and Bradford says it’s business as usual.
“Playing at Turf exciting, and it’s something I know that the fans have been calling for for a while, so to finally get it done is a really positive thing for everyone involved, but in terms of actual football preparation, it doesn’t really change.
“It’s still a game of football, it’s still 90 minutes, and you still want to win. There’s no denying that there is added excitement, and the atmosphere in the group this week has been great. I’m really pleased for this group of girls that they’re going to experience this, and I’m proud to be a part of it myself on the sideline.
“In terms of the game itself and the league, we’ve got a very outside chance, but we know we have to win, so we need to have the focus on us and our game.
“After we lost to [Nottingham] Forest, I said to the girls that it wasn’t done just yet, and that proved to be the case. It was out of our hands, in our hands, and now it’s back out of them. All we can do is win our game and see what happens around us.”
Addressing media at the Burnley Training Centre on Thursday morning, Bradford – who at present is the interim head coach having stepped up from an assistant role earlier this season – also discussed how important it is for women’s teams to be given opportunities to play at venues like Turf Moor.
Over 2,500 tickets have already been sold for the momentous occasion on Sunday, with the boss urging any supporters still pondering over coming down to do so!
“Hopefully being at Turf on Sunday will provide us with another opportunity to become more visible to the club’s fan base, who have already shown us some tremendous support this season.
“You look at teams playing in stadia, and numbers are creeping up in general. For us to be having our first go at it this weekend, and to have already sold as many tickets as we have done, is just incredible.
“As we get closer to the game, I hope sales continue to add up and fans can look at this fixture as something they want to be a part of because, we keep saying it, but it is going to be a part of history forever.
“People that aren’t free, cancel your plans and come down anyway! If you are free, then come along. I’m really keen on creating a brand of football that’s exciting to watch, and I think we’ve got a team with a lot of character, quality and class. We want to put on a show for you, so just be there if you can!”
Further tickets for the fixture have this afternoon been released and can be bought online HERE, over the phone & in person at the Turf Moor ticket office.
