Burnley U21s beat Everton U18s 4-1 on Wednesday evening to book their place in the semi-finals of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup.
Lewis Richardson and Trialist B both scored doubles in an impressive first-half display at the Toffees’ Finch Farm training ground.
Coby Ebere pulled one back for the hosts after the break but it wasn’t enough to stop the Clarets from booking a last-four tie with Accrington Stanley.
First Half
The deadlock was broken after just five minutes when Trialist B reacted quickest to score from close range after George Pickford had saved on the line.
Two goals in 10 minutes from Richardson then quickly took the game away from the hosts.
Burnley’s number 10 firstly found himself one-on-one with the Everton ‘keeper and calmly dinked the ball over him, before then firing a second into the bottom left corner having worked a yard of space.
Clarets goalkeeper Charlie Casper produced a smart save to his left to deny a Matthew Apter half-volley and Trialist B grabbed his second on the stroke of half-time, finishing strongly into the roof of the net.
Second Half
The second half’s first action of note came shortly before the hour, when Casper was on hand to deny Apter from range once again.
Coby Ebere then reduced Everton’s deficit, weaving his way through the Burnley back line and finishing well.
With Manager Andy Farrell fielding a squad consisting of a mixture of U21s, U18s and trialists, the group showed real desire and character to defend until the final whistle and ensure progression to the next stage.
