16-year-old Vernon Masara’s goal was the difference as Burnley U21s beat Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night to book their place in the Lancashire FA Senior Cup final.
The Clarets displayed defensive grit after the winger’s second-half strike to earn a fourth straight win in all competitions, three of which have been to nil.
Manager Andy Farrell made two changes to the 11 that started against Fleetwood Town in the Professional Development League last week, bringing in Charlie Casper and Logan Pye.
Following a competitive start the first chances of note came 15 minutes in. Burnley were first forced to clear a header off the line before Mikey O’Neill curled a free-kick narrowly wide at the other end.

The game came to life as it approached halftime, with Clarets goalkeeper Casper doing well to parry a Lewis Trickett effort away from danger.
Masara then received the ball on halfway, accelerated away from his man and worked Stanley ‘keeper Toby Savin before two more chances fell Burnley’s way in stoppage time.
Tommy McDermott headed wide from a good position before Joe Bevan fired over with the last kick off the half.
The young Clarets started the second period on the front foot, breaking the deadlock with 53 minutes on the clock.
Having been slid through by Tom Tweedy, Masara finished across Savin and into the bottom left corner.

That galvanised Stanley, with Anjola Popoola working Casper and Jack Massey showcasing tricky feet before shooting over.
Farell rotated his pack, bringing on Basilio Rieno Socoliche and later Bradley Grant, as the Clarets defended what they’d earned and secured the win.
After beating Liverpool and Everton in previous rounds, the U21s will now face Barrow AFC in the final.
Next up is the visit of Hull City in the Professional Development League on Saturday 9th March. Kick-off at the County Ground in Leyland is 12pm.
