Manager Vincent Kompany was pleased with his side's performance against the Royals in the goalless draw in Berkshire but admits Burnley were 'just not dangerous' enough in the final third.
The Clarets had chances through Scott Twine, Johann Berg Gudmundsson and and Darko Churlinov at the Select Car Leasing Stadium but a resilient Reading defence stood strong to keep the newly-promoted Clarets at bay.
Speaking post-match, Kompany praised his side's efforts and insists the result is a 'good point' for his side as Burnley close in on the Sky Bet Championship title.
The Clarets chief said: "I thought we did the basics right, we worked hard and didn’t concede a lot of chances in front of goal.
"Up the other end of the pitch, we created a lot of chances, we defended well throughout and on another day we could have gone on to score three or four goals.
"We just weren't dangerous enough in the final third today and not efficient enough at times but sometimes this can happen.
"I thought Reading defended really well and were putting their bodies on the line. The result and score-line today won't show how well we played."
Kompany added: "It's a clean sheet for us, a point away from home and it's not a bad point at all and it means just one more win might win the league.
“Winning the league was more important for us, not the record points total. We know we aren’t far away now and we want to bring it home."
The Clarets made six changes from the side that beat Sheffield United on Monday at Turf Moor with Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Ameen Al-Dakhil, Charlie Taylor, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Scott Twine and Manuel Benson all came into the XI.
Kompany discussed the thought process behind the changes and explains that all members of the squad have played an integral part of the 2022/23 campaign.
"We got here because of the squad, everyone has played a role over the season. We have needed these players and they have been massive for us.
"We also need to see everyone ahead of next season. We're constantly planning for next year and the more we see them out there, the more we see their progression.
"The only danger is match rhythm, but I have not seen any issues or problems so far with it, I'm proud of them."
