Clarets boss looks ahead to Saturday's trip to the Vitality

Manager Vincent Kompany is looking for a 'reaction' from his side as the Clarets head to Bournemouth this weekend following last Saturday's defeat at Brentford.

Despite the trip to the Gtech Stadium being a disappointing afternoon, Kompany wants his side to 'take it on the chin and learn from it' as Burnley gear up for another trip south on Saturday.

Speaking to the media on Thursday ahead of the visit to the Vitality, the Clarets chief says no matter what form or results his side have, the belief must stay the same amongst the squad and it's about how the team react and come back from it.

The Burnley boss said: “The biggest thing for me is belief and to always have it. It's important for me and no matter what happens, the main thing is that the team believes and then from a bad game like Brentford it's to see what the response can be.

“It's about how you react after this. Look at the Sheff United game last year and the response we got. Yes, I know it’s a different league and some different players but it's what I want to see now from this group.

"It’s a mindset thing and I've always been that way. It was tough last weekend and no one has shied away from it, but it's about what you do after."

Kompany added: “We have to take it on the chin last weekend and move on from it. We have to use it like we have is in the past and use it to learn from.

“There’s not much more to say. I can say we have a good team which we do and i believe strongly in, but we have to show it now."

Kompany is hoping his side can add to their one victory in the Premier League with a second three points this weekend.

The Clarets boss is expecting a tricky test on the coast against the Cherries who are yet to win but described the mentality is to stay 'consistent' and go into the game with the same winning mindset as every other game.

Kompany said: "It's another tough away game for us and it's about how we look to get a result and the three points.

“I know it gets mentioned the word 'worried'. My mindset stays the same every game, stay consistent, work hard and it's not in my nature to panic.

“Every game is a must win for us. From the age of six I played where we had to win every game and it's in my blood, I can't never not want to win. You have to win every game.

“When you have the attitude of wanting to win every game. It sets high standards for everyone. If you want to win every game you do by demanding the best from everyone every day."

Prior to Kompany's pre-match press conference, it was announced that striker Lyle Foster had penned a new five-year deal at Turf Moor.

The Clarets chief is pleased to tie down the South African forward until at least 2028 and praised his impressive start to the 2023/24 campaign.

“We’re in a position now he came in from a very small club before coming to us and we believe he’s going to be an important striker in the Premier League.

“It took him a few months to settle in but he’s happy, performing well. He’s hard working and able to compete at this level. It’s good for the club that he has signed."
