Burnley Football Club were delighted to host a special friendly match yesterday, welcoming legendary Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris and the Iron Maiden football team to the Gawthorpe Training Ground for an entertaining 3-3 draw, following the band’s triumphant show at the Co-Op Live arena in Manchester the night before.

The game, arranged around Iron Maiden’s sold-out ‘Run for Your Lives’ European Tour, which sees them play to over 1 million fans, saw a team comprised of BFC staff, captained by former Burnley skipper and current Academy Coach Jack Cork, take on an Irons side made up of Harris, the band’s management, road crew and support band The Raven Age.

Steve Harris, a lifelong West Ham fan and keen footballer, commented: “We’ve been playing these matches all around the world for years and we were delighted to be able to get a game in. We’ve been lucky enough to play at clubs like Barcelona, LA Galaxy and Bayern Munich and Burnley felt like the obvious choice in the North West. I’m really pleased to see Scott and the team back in the Premier League and wish them all the best next season… except for when they play West Ham of course”

A Jack Cork brace saw the game end with honours even in this battle of the Claret and Blues. Iron Maiden FC play a West Ham XI on Sunday - the day after the band’s sold-out London Stadium Show.
