Burnley Football Club can today confirm the signing of young right back Alex Healy-Byrne from League of Ireland outfit Cork City.
Putting pen to paper on a two-year professional deal with the option of a third-year extension in the Club’s favour, the 18-year-old had been with Cork since 2019 having joined from former side College Corinthians AFC.
Helping City’s U17 side to win the Sky Blue Cup last October with victories against Coventry City, AFC Bournemouth & Oxford United, Healy-Byrne has also represented the Republic of Ireland internationally at youth level.
Appearing for Cork’s first-team as a substitute in a Munster Senior Cup tie back in March, the defender is now relishing a move to the Clarets which will initially see him link up with the U21s for the remainder of their Professional Development League campaign.
He said: “I’m delighted to be at a Club as big as Burnley with a clear pathway for younger players.
“It’s something I’m really excited to be a part of, and having met the staff & seen all the facilities at the Burnley Training Centre, I know this is the right move for me in progressing my career.
“I owe a lot to Cork for how much they’ve helped me over the last few years, but with the deal done, I can’t wait to get going as a Burnley player now.”
