Joining the Norfolk & Suffolk amateur league upon their founding in 1902, Norwich were deemed a professional organisation by the Football Association and were elected into the Southern League.
Entering liquidation during the first World War, City re-formed in 1919, joining the Football League’s Third Division the following year. Moving between the second and third tiers in the coming years, the Canaries were to win their first trophy – a League Cup – in 1962.
Ten years later, the club reached the top flight for the first time, relegated two years later. They again ‘yo-yoed’ between the top and second tier for a stint, winning the League Cup but being relegated in the 1984-85 season.
Qualifying for the UEFA Cup, Norwich famously beat Bayern Munich in the mid 90s. Since, there has been plenty of ups and downs, including back-to-back promotions from both League One and the Championship under Paul Lambert.
Fluctuating, the Canaries have been up and down since 2018/19. Their last two seasons in the Premier League – including last term – have seen them finish bottom.
