Based in the East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull were founded in 1904.
Having to play friendlies in their first year of existence, Hull were given membership into the Football League’s Second Division for the 1905-06 season, granted permission to play on Christmas Day because of the demands of the fish trade in the city.
Going on to play in either the second or third tiers, City rose to the topflight for the first time with a win in the Championship Play-Off final in 2007/08. The following year, the Clarets would achieve the same feat.
They went on to reach the FA Cup final in 2014, the same year that their highest Premier League finish of 16th was recorded, losing to Arsenal at Wembley. Nonetheless, that result still booked them a spot in the Europa League the following season though City got knocked out in the qualifying rounds.
Hull found themselves back in League One after relegation from the Premier League and Championship, but they soon bounced back to the second tier of English football and they will be looking to once again regain their top flight status.

Notable Connections: There have been plenty of memorable faces to have represented both Burnley and Hull over the years.
Two of those in Dean Marney and George Boyd – who helped the Clarets to Premier League promotions during their time at Turf Moor – fall into that category. Having spent four years with the Tigers, it was they who Marney joined Burnley from.
Becoming Brian Laws’ first summer signing in 2010, the midfielder would go on to spend eight years as a Claret, only featuring for Fleetwood Town after his departure and prior to his retirement.
Scottish international Boyd also followed that same path, moving to Lancashire in September 2014. Now a regular co-commentator alongside Phil Bird on matchdays, the former attacker spent three years as a Burnley player before moving on to Sheffield Wednesday.
Other names to have played for both Burnley and Hull include Robbie Brady, Andy Payton, and Gerry Harrison.
Last Time We Met: A little over five years ago – in Hull’s most recent Premier League season – Burnley took a point from a 1-1 draw when they made the trip to Humberside.
It was the same scoreline earlier in the season when the two sides met at Turf Moor, and on this occasion, both goals came within four minutes of each other.
Tom Huddlestone put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot on 72 minutes before Michael Keane grabbed the equaliser with a quick response. Late on, Ashley Barnes was shown a red card after two bookable offences.
