In this article, the club in focus is Cardiff City...
Founded in 1899, then known as Riverside A.F.C., the Welsh outfit adopted their now known name of Cardiff City 20 years later in 1908 as they entered the English football pyramid.
Starting out in the Southern Football League – now a part of the non-league structure – Cardiff eventually moved into the English Football League in 1920. They are – to date – the only club from outside England to have won the FA Cup, doing so in 1927.
Unsurprisingly one of Wales’ most successful teams domestically, they hold the second-most Welsh Cup successes – behind Wrexham. In the Premier League era, the Bluebirds have featured on two separate occasions, 2013/14 & 2018/19, relegated both times.
This season will be their third straight in the second tier, looking in danger of relegation early on last season but surviving comfortably in the end.

Notable Connections: In terms of a connection to the place, Clarets fans need look no further than the backline.
Full back Connor Roberts and goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey both represent their country at the Cardiff City Stadium as a home base. The pair both played as Wales reached the World Cup for the first time in 64 years with victory over Ukraine in June.
In the current Cardiff squad, defender Sean Morrison featured the last time that the two clubs were in the same division back in 2018/19.
Last Time We Met: The two haven’t met since City’s last season in the Premier League in 2018/19 when the Clarets did the double.
First winning 2-1 away in Wales in September 2018, Burnley then came out 2-0 victors when the Bluebirds visited Turf Moor in April 2019.
Striker Chris Wood got both goals that day, heading in Dwight McNeil’s corner for the first just after the half-hour mark having already struck the woodwork earlier in the game.
The second came two minutes into added time at the end of the game. McNeil again provided the assist with a low cross into the box which caused a mix-up that allowed Wood to head into an empty net. Neil Warnock’s Cardiff were confirmed as relegated just a few weeks later.
