Brentford
Formed in 1889, Brentford initially played amateur football before entering into the London League in 1896.
Elected into the Southern League two years later, they would win the Second Division in 1901 and move into long-time home Griffin Park three years later.
Going on to be elected into the Football League in 1920, the Bees regularly picked up silverware with league titles in both 1933 and 1935 to propel themselves up to the top flight.
Peaking at a 5th-place finish in the top flight in 1935/36, three relegations would leave them in the Fourth Division by 1962.
14 consecutive seasons were spent in the Third Division starting in 1978, and Brentford became a club who floated between the third and fourth tiers for a period.
Despite winning the League Two title in 2009, the Championship barrier wasn’t breached by Brentford until 2014 when they were promoted as League One champions under Mark Warburton.
Reaching the play-offs in their first season in the second tier since 1993, there would be consistent mid-table finishes in the campaigns which followed until 2019/20 when a 3rd-place finish again saw the Bees in the play-offs.
Going all the way to Wembley, they were beaten by London rivals Fulham behind closed doors during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Down but not out, Thomas Frank would then guide his side to the Premier League via the play-offs the following year though, beating Swansea City at Wembley in 2021.
Since then, their status as a top flight club hasn’t been in doubt, with a historic 9th-place finish last term.
