In this article, the club in focus is Blackpool...
Founded in 1887, Blackpool were founding members of the Lancashire League two years later before going on to join the Football League’s Second Division.
The Tangerines enjoyed success throughout the late 1930s and 40s, reaching the FA Cup final on three separate occasions.
Winners of the competition in 1953 – widely known as the ‘Matthews’ final’ – the club eventually went to the fourth tier of English football before making the slow climb back up.
Spending one season in the Premier League in 2010/11, the Pool were relegated on the final day of the season. They then fell back through the pyramid and into League Two.
Having once again climbed their way back to the Championship, Blackpool are spending a second consecutive season in the second tier after a respectable finish last time out under now departed boss Neil Critchley.

Notable Connections: During the early stages of his career, former Claret Joe Hart made five League One appearances for the Tangerines on loan from Manchester City. 11 years later, he joined Burnley and made 24 appearances over the course of two seasons at Turf Moor.
Micky Mellon, father of current academy striker Michael, also played for Blackpool prior to his time with Burnley. The current Tranmere Rovers manager was Player of the Year at Bloomfield Road in 1995/96. Joining the Clarets in 1999, Mellon made 85 appearances over two seasons. The first of which saw Burnley win promotion to the First Division.
Meanwhile, Mike Summerbee OBE also featured for both clubs. More well known for his successful spell as a Manchester City player, Summerbee became a Claret in 1975. Making 51 appearances during his time at Turf Moor, the England international moved to Blackpool on Christmas Eve 1976. He played only three times in the league before ending his career with Stockport County.
Last Time We Met: Competitively, the Clarets haven’t come face to face with the Tangerines since April 2014. A curled effort from Michael Kightly minutes into the second half was enough to seal a 1-0 victory at Bloomfield Road that day.
Burnley would go onto seal promotion to the Premier League the following week at Turf Moor, beating Wigan Athletic.
More recently, the pair faced off on the Fylde Coast in a pre-season friendly last July. Again, Burnley ran out 1-0 winners that night with young defender Bobby Thomas heading home the only goal of the game.
Wayne Hennessey made his Clarets debut, impressing for the 65 minutes that he played, while a lot of the U23s were given minutes alongside the first-teamers.
