Despite Burnley falling to their first defeat of pre-season on Saturday evening, boss Vincent Kompany insists it was an important fixture for his squad’s fitness and integration.
Goals from Yira Sor and Tolu Arokodare sealed the victory for the home side in their final friendly of the summer as they prepare to begin their UEFA Champions League qualification on Tuesday.
Speaking post-match in Belgium, Kompany said: “It was a good one for fitness. In the end we didn’t play too bad.
“If you look at the final 15 minutes it paints a bit of a different picture to if you look at the start of the game and everything else before.
“I thought it was an ok performance, you have to look at bringing the new players in and it’s the start of pre-season for them.
“We’re still integrating what we’re doing on the training ground and these games are very important for us.”

New signing James Trafford was handed a start between the sticks after signing on Thursday, whilst Wednesday’s arrival Zeki Amdouni was introduced in the final 20 minutes.
“James is a sound lad. He’s got a bright future and I think he’s going to help us with his performances soon and hopefully now.
“But in the end there is no doubt about his talent and we know what he’s capable of.
“He’s been here for two days, minutes on the pitch is the most important thing at the moment.
“We have a game on Tuesday against Benfica then it’s Betis on Friday.”
