Club remind supporters of Love Football, Protect the Game campaign message

Ahead of our final game of the 2024/25 season, Burnley Football Club are asking for your support to ensure that the actions of the minority do not spoil the game for all.

In 2022, the Club welcomed the launch of the Love Football, Protect the Game campaign, to ensure that football continues to provide a safe environment for all. Thanks to your support, and close collaboration with local agencies and supporter groups, this season has seen a nationwide reduction in incidents across the campaign’s key focus areas. These include pyrotechnics, football tragedy abuse, throwing of missiles and other abusive behaviour.

However, we know that just one incident is too many and can have a serious impact on both match going supporters and those guilty of such behaviour, who face stadium bans, criminal records and other impacts on their education or employment.

Following the recent win against Sheffield United, a man has been arrested for pitch encroachment and breaching a Football Banning Order at the game. He has been charged with both offences and will appear at Blackburn Magistrates on the 16th May. He will also be issued with a stadium ban.

The Club has identified a male who was on the pitch with a flare and detained by a steward and the individual who posted a video on social media of himself running past opposition manager Chris Wilder and swearing at him.

Both individuals have been passed on to the police and have been issued with stadium bans.

The Club will continue to liaise with Lancashire Police in regard to the ongoing investigation and it is fully anticipated that further police prosecutions and stadium bans will follow in the close season.

The Millwall fixture will see enhanced police and stewarding presence to ensure the safety and security of players, officials and all supporters who will be attending the game.

We look forward to coming together for our last game of the season and we encourage supporters to stay and celebrate a lap of honour with the players after the final whistle. We urge supporters to please respect the players and show your continued support from the stands.
