Left-back chats impressive home display against Hull City

Bashir Humphreys said he felt the Clarets 2-0 win against Hull City on Wednesday evening was one of the team's 'best performances at Turf Moor this season'.

The left-back put Scott Parker's men ahead just three minutes into the game with his first goal for the Club and reflecting afterwards said he couldn't be happier with the three points following a controlling performance.

“It's an amazing win. I think we had a lot of confidence coming in from the last few games, so it was just nice to give a good performance.

“I think for us that’s probably one of our best performances at the turf this season. I felt like we were all on the same page and it was key. We could see what they were doing, and we could just adjust to it in the game which was nice.”

With two assists to his name so far this season, how did it feel to net his first goal in front of the Turf Moor home crowd?

“It’s an amazing feeling. To be honest I didn’t really know what to do! I won’t lie I used to have celebrations ready, but I had nothing ready. So, I was just smiling, enjoying the moment really. It’s a top feeling.”

And grabbing the goal so early, did that help breed more confidence for the game?

“100%, I think it gives you that boost and the foundation to go on and express yourselves. Obviously, we’ve been so solid defensively this season, but I feel like it’s more about us showing what we can do on the ball which is nice because it allowed us to do that.”

Goals aside, talking about the other end of the pitch Humphreys has played a key role in the Clarets record defensive displays this season. With tonight's 10th consecutive clean sheet, the side has become the first in second tier history to keep 10 clean sheets in a row.

“It’s something to be proud of. We don’t really get caught up on it, game by game we just try to defend as best we can, and we’ve been coming out with clean sheets.

“It’s a lot to do with trust. I was speaking to CJ after the game, and we were saying we have complete confidence in each other. I know that if I make a mistake and the ball goes over my head, Maxi’s there. If he makes a mistake and the ball goes over his head, CJ’s there. Then if it’s crisis mode, Traff’s there, and you just look behind and you’re so confident that we can keep clean sheets and keep balls out of the net.”

It's a quick turnaround for Humphreys and the team who are in action again in the early kick-off at Preston North End on Saturday. With a strong 6,000 travelling contingent due to be at Deepdale, the 21-year-old is looking forward to the local derby.

“It’s so exciting and of course coming off a few good results it’s nice to take that confidence into a local derby. Our away fans are amazing so hopefully we can try and put on a good performance for them.”
