Burnley securing promotion back to the Premier League last Friday night was one to remember for everyone at the Club and Taylor Harwood Bellis admits it’s up there with one his best night’s ever!
Although the defender wasn't involved in the 2-1 victory on Teesside on Friday night, the 21-year-old has played a pivotal role across the season and slotted straight back into defence on Monday night against Sheffield United helping the team secure an 18th clean sheet of the season.
Speaking after the 2-0 win at Turf Moor, Harwood-Bellis said: “It was probably the best thing I’ve had in football. Making my debut for Manchester City was up there as well but apart from that it’s the best thing I’ve had. Spending time with the fans at the end and celebrating on Friday with all the players was class.
“We’re a good unit. We celebrate together and we go through the tough times on the pitch together and it was all worth it. But we’ve got another six games to go to do something nobody else has done.”
If The Clarets are to win all their remaining six matches of the season they will reach 108 points for the 2022/23 campaign.
The current record points total for the Championship is the 106 points this weekend’s opponents Reading reached in 2005/06 and Harwood-Bellis insists the side must keep going.
“We’ve set our standards throughout the season. We’ve got to keep doing what we’re doing and not change anything or take our foot off the gas or think we’ve cracked it.
“There are records to go for. There’s silverware to get our hands on. That’s exactly what everybody here at Burnley wants to do.”
Burnley now face a busy period as the season draws towards a close with five fixtures in just 15 days and THB knows the manager will keep the squad fully focussed and firing on all cylinders until the end of the season.
The defender said: “When people ask me if I’m surprised about the job he’s done or where we are in the league… not a chance. I’m not surprised at all. The work he puts in is just ridiculous.
“The amount of detail he goes into, the hours he puts in, he gives us everything we could ask for.
“That’s why we go out on the pitch and want to repay him. Repay the staff who put all put in the hours as well. The physios, analysis, everyone.”
“So I’m not surprised we’re at the top and he wont let us take our foot off the gas. That’s obviously credit to him.”
The centre-back who has spent the season on loan from Premier League champions Manchester City also had a special mention to the Turf Moor faithful at full-time on Monday evening.
“The fans are unreal. I feel like I’ve got a bit of a connection with them and I hope they feel the same way because I love playing in front of them – home and away. I think they’re class, they push us on and they buy into the way we play.
“They know we’re not going to rush playing balls into the box and we’re not gonna go chasing a goal when we know that’s not how we play.
“When we score the roar and the celebrations are class! Yeah. It’s credit to them as well.”
