Johann Berg Gudmundsson says the Clarets must not get carried away with the emotions of results whether that be winning games or losing games.
The Icelandic midfielder, who is in his eighth season at Turf Moor, believes the team ‘must stay right in the middle’ of the rollercoaster of a Premier League season.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s trip to Arsenal, Gudmundsson highlighted the importance of keeping the same mindset & mentality across the whole campaign which the 33-year-old believes will only help the team long-term.
Gudmundsson explained: “I think it’s just important to keep calm heads. It’s stay really early, there’s loads of games to go. It’s a rollercoaster season and we just need to stay right in the middle.
“When the wins come it’s important to not get too high and when the losses come to not get too down and low about it.
“I think if you can stay in the mindset and mentality across the whole season then it can help you massively.”
The wideman added: “I remember a few seasons ago where we didn’t win for a long time, but we just have to stick together and put the work in on the pitch and at training and it can pay off.

“It’s definitely not through lack of effort that we haven’t done so well, I think we’re one of the highest In the league in terms of running distance, so it’s certainly not that.
“It’s just them fine details we need to fix and that’s what we are trying to do every day to rectify the errors from the last games”
Gudmundsson has started in Burnley’s last two league fixtures since returning form injury and despite suffering narrow defeats in both, the experienced winger says there are positives to take but the Clarets must improve in both boxes to gather more points.
“I think there are positives to take from the last few games. Bournemouth away we went 1-0 up then conceded two sloppy goals.
“Against Palace we started well then, it’s a mistake that costs us and it’s mistakes we need to learn from. Performance overall was good but need to start getting the points.
“The game is decided in both boxes, you need to be tight and compact at one end then clinical and ruthless in the other one.
“That’s something that we are missing at the moment but it’s definitely something we can fix with the players and talent we have in this team.”

Gudmundsson has surpassed the 200 mark in appearances for the Club since joining in 2016 from Charlton and the midfielder says himself and the senior players amongst the squad take on the role of ‘lending their experience’ to the younger players in the team.
“We have a young group but also have some experienced heads in here too with myself, Jay, Corky, Chaz (Taylor), Browny and the others and we just tell them we know it can be difficult but you have to just stick at it and things will go the right way.
"It’s a young group, a lot haven’t played in the Premier League before this season and it can be hard as I think it’s the most difficult league in the world.
"It’s just about us being able to lend that experience to some of them and ensure them that runs of form like this have happened before and we have been able to get out of it
“Every training session we try lead by example, whether that be in the gym, on the pitch and in the dressing room after games to try lift that mood a little bit
“Everybody has to do their job in aim to get them three points on the board but as the older ones we try help the younger lads as much as possible every day."
