Temporary switch for U21s wide man

Brad Grant says he and his team-mates are ‘buzzing’ following Tuesday afternoon’s Professional Development League victory over Bristol City.

Grant was on target twice at Ashton Gate, netting either side of a Rob Atkinson own goal as the Clarets recorded a 3-1 victory.

The goals were the 19-year-old’s first of the campaign and the versatile left-sided player reflected on his display with pride.

“I’ve played left back sometimes this season, but it’s always nice to be further forward and get involved in the attacks,” he said.

“Getting into those positions and being able to score from them should also help the team.

“My two goals were good and we were able to get our first win of the season. All the boys did very well and we just need to keep going.”

Grant broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, linking up with attacking midfielder Brandon Ly down the left.

“Brandon got played through and went down the line,” said Grant.

“I saw the defender in front of me so I just pulled off him. Brandon’s cut it back and I was able to finish into the top left corner.”

Having started the season with back-to-back draws against Millwall and Ipswich Town, Andy Farrell’s side were narrowly beaten by AFC Bournemouth before losing to Charlton Athletic last week.

The first win of the season is always a good milestone for any team, and Grant explained the impact he expects three points to have before commenting on the opportunity to play at Ashton Gate.

“The win will have a positive effect on the group,” he continued.

“We haven’t had the best of starts to the season but we’ve been putting stuff that we’ve been doing in training into the games.

“Everybody’s buzzing and it’s going to be a real confidence boost.

“It’s where everyone wants to be really – playing in front of fans and in a stadium. It always gives us a massive boost before the game.”
