Tony Philliskirk led a young Academy group at Stockport County on Wednesday night, giving a mixture of scholars and school boys an opportunity to test themselves against more experienced opposition.
The Clarets acquitted themselves well and took a first-half lead through U16 central midfielder Sam Morley, who finished confidently from the edge of the area.
Stockport grew into the Premier League Cup tie as it progressed, though, and their fitness shone through as three late goals earned them the win.
