The claret women secured silverware in Wednesday evening's cup final win over old foes AFC Fylde Women at the County Ground in Leyland. Strikers Evie Priestley and Sarah Greenhalgh reflected on the win after the game.
On earning regional silverware:
SG: “It’s an amazing feeling to lift the cup. I think that we all worked really hard for it.”
EP: “We put in a really good team performance, and I don’t think that they [Fylde] had much throughout the 90 minutes, so I’m really happy.”
On Priestley netting two final goals in a 4-1 win:
EP: “That’s six in total in this competition and my second goal tonight was my favourite. I just curled it into the far corner.”
SG: “Post and in! She’s just quality.”
Greenhalgh on returning to Burnley after a brief spell away:
“It was definitely a good decision for me to come back. I’ve just talked about it with some of the girls here [at the County Ground] that I’ve played with before, and I’m honestly so happy that I came back. I’m happy to be winning trophies again too!”
On limiting pre-match nerves ahead of a final tie against familiar opposition:
SG: “We felt confident coming into the game. The way that we set up yesterday [Tuesday] in training was really good. The coaching staff gave us little things within our game plan, and we were well prepared.
EP: “We knew coming into the final that it’d be tough, but we’ve beaten them before so we knew we could do it again.”
Greenhalgh on the immediate dressing room celebrations:
“We’ll definitely be getting the tunes on, but I’m not on the playlist! Liv G [Olivia Greenalgh] is the DJ in the dressing room at the moment.
