Zian Flemming admitted he thought a point was 'a fair result' following the Clarets' 1-1 draw against West Brom on Tuesday evening.

Reflecting after the game, the 26-year-old who netted the equaliser three minutes after John Swift put the Baggies ahead, was pleased with the character the team showed to going behind, but was disappointed not to take the opportunity to jump further up the Sky Bet Championship table.

“We really wanted to win, we knew it could be a massive win as well to jump up the table, especially if you see the results of the other teams now. We’re frustrated every time we can’t get a win but on the flip side, we also have to be honest and say that we played against a really good side today. We fought as hard as we could, we tried to get the goal and unfortunately, we couldn’t get it today.”

Having posed Burnley problems the last time the two sides met in a goalless encounter at the Hawthorns in November, Flemming felt Tony Mowbray's side really tested the team.

“They’re a solid team with a good defensive shape. Also, I think on the ball you can see that they’ve got quality to play through our shape every now and again, even though our shape is really good as well.

“They really tested us, which was probably a good test, we can probably look back on this game and take some things we can improve on. But we’d obviously rather have had the three points.”

Flemming reacted quickest in the box to pull the score level in the first half and was disappointed that the ensuing momentum couldn't result in a second goal.

“Their goal, the free-kick, was in a dangerous position. The way he finished it off was incredible really, sometimes you’ve got to hold your hands up and accept it as hard as it is.

“As a team I think we reacted quite well after that goal, we had momentum. I got a goal as well and I think after we got the goal the momentum carried on and we were really looking and pushing for the second one. Again, unfortunately we couldn’t get it, but all the right intentions, intensity and quality was there.

“I think if you look at the game in the second half without the Burnley glasses on as you would say, I think a draw is probably a fair result. We could have won it, Jaidon Anthony with a shot on the bar and we had a good chance with Marcus which was great defending from them as well. Then they had a shot on the bar. So, it was a tight game, chances a bit on our side, a bit on their side. It was probably a fair result even though it’s disappointing.”

With the point extending the Clarets' unbeaten run to 24 matches and with nine games to go, Flemming says it's important the team take the learnings from tonight's test.

“It was a good challenge. In a game like this where you get tested against a good side, it also shows character, the way we’ve dealt with conceding the goal because we’re not really used to conceding goals this season, so the reaction was top drawer. Also, in a game against teams that are good and test us, it shows great character and quality that we at least make sure that we don’t lose it. We take a point, we keep our unbeaten streak, 24 games unbeaten in this league is really, really impressive. Obviously, we want to extend that by nine more though."
